Geograph postcards and posters are reproduced from photos taken from NASA high altitude research aircraft.
The normal altitude range for the photos on this page is approximately 22 miles for the city shots.
Broader regional shots, like the Chesapeake Bay image, are produced from satellite data.
A few images at Artcards: Space and Planets are produced using mosaics of several satellite shots to create an
image of an even larger area.

Generally the colors of the infrared photography translate as follows:

Red = vegetation
Lite blue = pavement
Dark blue = water

Posters are 17" x 22" (43.2cm x 55.9cm) printed on Chrome Coat paper.
